Cooperativa Integral Sulitânia has worked on Quinta da Fornalha in Castro Marim since May 2023. Its members planted a food forest, installed solar power and built the practical things a place needs to work.

The use of the land, under a comodato, a free loan for use, was promised to the cooperative. The cooperative and its members put time, work and money into the place.

The cooperative's part in that place is now ending. Before it steps away, it wants to understand its position properly and close this chapter in an orderly way.

Contributions go to the cooperative and pay only for the costs listed below.

The cooperative

Sulitânia began in May 2023, when a group of people started to live and work on Quinta da Fornalha. In June 2025 they registered as a cooperative: Cooperativa Integral Sulitânia, CRL.

The work is visible in the ground and on the roofs: a food forest, a working solar installation, and the ordinary infrastructure that makes a place liveable.

Alongside that, knowledge, friendships and working relationships grew. Those do not stay behind. They travel on with the people who made them.

Until now, the cooperative and its members carried this work themselves.

Why the cooperative needs clarity first

The cooperative has asked MLGTS, an independent law firm, for a written assessment. Not to win an argument, but to know what is actually true before it decides anything.

Where the cooperative stands legally, including what the promised comodato means.

How the investments and improvements the cooperative made are treated.

Which routes are open, including simply talking it through.

The risks of each route, and whether it is realistic at all.

What evidence is needed, and what the practical next steps are.

Part of that work is looking at whether a compensation amount for the cooperative could be determined, and on what basis. Nothing about that is settled. It is one of the things the cooperative wants examined.

Why the cooperative is asking now

What the cooperative had went into the place: plants, panels, materials and years of work. It is still there, in the ground and on the roofs.

Which means the money for this next step is not.

That is the whole reason for this page. No emergency, no drama. A straightforward request for help with the practical costs of closing well.

What your contribution pays for

Independent legal assessment by MLGTS

MLGTS has quoted €1,500 plus applicable VAT for the legal memorandum, with a €1,000 upfront payment that forms part of that fee.

Practical questions

What will my contribution pay for?

The cooperative's costs for an independent legal assessment, notarial costs, and a reserve for costs that come up while closing this chapter. The full breakdown is above.

What is the legal memorandum?

A written assessment by an independent law firm of the cooperative's position, its investments, the routes available and their risks. It is advice, not a ruling.

Does this mean the cooperative is going to court?

No. Nothing has been decided. The cooperative wants to understand the situation first; talking it through is one of the routes it is looking at.

Who receives the money?

Cooperativa Integral Sulitânia, CRL (NIF 518771571). The cooperative receives the contributions and pays the invoices for this process. Payments are processed by Stripe.

Is this a personal fundraiser?

No. Contributions go to the cooperative and pay for the cooperative's own costs. Nobody receives money for personal use through this page.

Can I get a receipt for my company?

Stripe emails a payment receipt for every contribution. If your company needs a receipt from the cooperative, email hello@syntrociety.org with the company name and tax number.

Can I get my contribution back?

If you contributed by mistake or chose the wrong amount, email hello@syntrociety.org within 14 days and the cooperative refunds it to the payment method you used. The details are in the terms.

Why are some details kept private?

Other people are involved, and it would be unfair to discuss them in public. The cooperative also does not want to draw conclusions before it has had proper advice.

What is the provision for additional costs?

A reserve. Closing something like this usually involves documents, translations and administration. The amount is budgeted, not yet spent.
